Dear MABIPians, friends and colleagues,

Greetings and welcome to the 6th MABIP Annual Scientific Meeting.

While most conferences and scientific meetings this year are cancelled due to COVID 19, we feel that medical education and updates should continue. Therefore, we have decided to proceed and for the first time ever, we will be conducting this year’s annual congress online.

It is fitting that the theme for this year’s congress is ‘From basic to interventional in the era of COVID 19’.

UiTM Hospital is hosting this year's Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held from 2nd until 4th of October. The focus of this 3-day online meeting is on interventional pulmonology including paediatric interventional pulmonology.

The meeting will start with topics related to basic bronchoscopy, followed by advanced bronchoscopy. Apart from that, there will be lecture sessions on current non-interventional topics such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and lung transplant as well as interactive session on CPET interpretation. Ten distinguished overseas speakers in the field of pulmonology have been invited to share their knowledge and expert opinions on various topics.   We sincerely hope that the participants of the 6th MABIP Annual Scientific Meeting will take this opportunity to improve their knowledge and at the same time, have an enjoyable time in doing so at their own homes.

Yours sincerely,

Dear MABIPians, friends and colleagues,

I'm pleased to welcome you to MABIP2020, the 6th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Malaysian Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.

After much deliberation and given the uncertainties of the months ahead due to the COVID 19 pandemic,  the MABIP Board has decided to conduct a virtual congress. While we know that our members always look forward to this ASM where we get a chance to meet up with old friends, make new ones and exchange ideas in a convivial ambience, the risks of travel and mass gatherings at this time are too high and therefore, we have taken this decision reluctantly because it is the socially responsible thing to do.

The local Organizing Chairman Dr  Mohd Arif and his 'crack' UiTM team are working hard to prepare a high quality meeting. Besides local faculty, marquee speakers from the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MATCVS) and World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP) will be invited to share their insights .

The ASM will feature basic and advanced interventional pulmonary topics which will be useful to our pulmonary fellows as well as the experienced pulmonologists.

As Serdang hospital continues to make progress in rebuiding the National lung transplant program, we have once again invited Dr Gerard Meachery, lung transplant consultant from Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, UK with a view to harnessing his vast experience in lung transplantation. I'm confident that his talks will benefit fellows and experienced pulmonologists alike.

Another great news is Serdang hospital has initiated ILD services early this year to add to its pulmonary hypertension and lung transplant services. Therefore, it has become even more important now than before to have a viable lung transplant service in the country.

To further cement the cross-continental partnership, Serdang hospital plans to continue to work in partnership with Freeman hospital to establish a mentoring program for trainee pulmonary specialist doctors.

Finally, there will be no congress without delegates and we sincerely look forward to you attending the MABIP2020 virtual congress.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jamalul, MABIP Chair
