Selamat Datai (Welcome)
On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to attend the upcoming 5th MABIP Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Kuching, the land of the hornbills, is honoured to be chosen as the host for MABIP 2019. The organizing committee is putting up an interesting scientific programme which includes various topics on interventional pulmonology, airways diseases, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung diseases and lung transplantation. Besides all these, there will be case-based discussions, recorded live cases, hands-on workshop as well as poster and oral presentations to enhance discussion among practitioners.
We hope that this congress will become a platform for the advancement of interventional pulmonology for everybody, hence the theme of the congress, "Advancing interventional pulmonology in Malaysia".
Besides the scientific programme, the organizing committee is also preparing a gala dinner featuring unique cultures of indigenous people of Sarawak. We hope that you will also spend some time to explore the wonderful nature of Sarawak.
Finally, we sincerely hope that you will enjoy the congress.
Dr Tie Siew Teck
Organizing Chairman MABIP 2019
Dear MABIPians, friends and colleagues,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to MABIP2019, the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology.
This year, the Scientific Meeting is held at bustling Kuching, Sarawak. Sarawak is situated on the northwestern part of Borneo; the third largest island in the world.
The local Organizing Chairman Dr Tie Siew Teck and his 'crack' Sarawak Lung team are working hard to prepare a high quality meeting. Besides local speakers, members of the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology will be invited to share their insights .
The pre-conference workshop will see both basic and advanced topics which will be useful to our pulmonary fellows as well as the experienced pulmonologists.
As Serdang hospital rebuilds the National lung transplant program in 2019, we will be inviting an experienced lung transplant consultant from the UK to cover essential topics and present case-based discussion which will benefit fellows and experienced pulmonologists alike. Interventional pulmonology cannot be separated from lung transplant as complications that arise need interventional pulmonology which include (but not limited to) airway stenosis and rejection.
With progress being made in interstitial lung diseases in Malaysia, it has become even more important now than before to have a proper lung transplant service in the country.
When we have a good lung transplant service in Serdang, then we can even consider collaborating with Papworth and Royal Brompton and make Serdang the microcosm of Papworth and Brompton.
Finally, there will be no congress without delegates and we sincerely look forward to you attending MABIP2019.
Jamalul, MABIP Chair
